Born on 16 August 1950 in Burgas, but enough about the seaside, because the inner courtyards of Shishman Street in the capital awaited him. From a 7^th High School graduate in Sofia and an English speaking tanker in Karlovo for two years to 1977 as a student in Atanas Tasev’s Class in NAFTA specialising in Cinematography. Having travelled over half the globe with a light meter around his neck, only the Bulgarian National TV fund stores the footage he has filmed.

1975 The cafe at 1 Tulovo Str. or more precisely “the cafe next to the old entrance” of the national television. A little time before filming, a cup of coffee, a cigarette, a box of matches and a pen (black by default). A few minutes later the matchbox is covered with ink circles and squares. “Kodev, let’s go” A BNT team is leaving for a filming location, but where to go without a cameraman?

VLADISLAV KODEV IS ONE OF THE LONGEST-SERVING film cameramen OF THE NATIONAL TELEVISION. He has mostly worked in films for “EKRAN” studios, TV Theatre, Bogomil Raynov’s series “Brazilian melody”, “Typhoons with tender names”, “Hot footprints”.  In 1977 he was admitted to NATFA /National Academy of Theatre and Film Arts/ “Krastyo Sarafov” in Atanas Tasev’s Class specialising in Cinematography, while in 1985 the film with which he graduated – “Thursday” received an award for debut in the “Golden Chest” festival. As a cameraman in the Bulgarian National Television he has mainly worked with “Contemporary” Editorial Department, “FACE” and “RAY”. HE WAS THE CAMERAMAN AND DIRECTOR OF A SERIES OF DOCUMENTARIES AND PUBLICISTIC PROGRAMMES, which are in the BNT archive. From 1989 until 2015 he worked in the symbolic programme “Panorama”.

Following the dynamic rhythm of his work for almost 45 years, he unnoticeably created a significant number of drawings. They exhibit a progressive rhythm in the composition while the movements are particularly bright. The rhythm of this visual art is a diverse repetition or an interesting alternation of elements of the composition. It is the rhythmic repetition itself that creates the feeling of progressiveness. Its essence lies in the fact that the object changes its shape or size with each repetition. Each step of the repetition progresses while consecutively increasing or decreasing these changes. For example, the size of an object can increase exponentially. But it is not only the shape and size of the object that can change during repetition but also the colour, tone and intervals.

Kodev’s method is the abstract approach to visual art by means of coloured inks. Starting spontaneously, without scenario and always finishing with a firm finale.
